You have probably noticed the pattern by now.

You read the book. You feel something open. You tell yourself this time will be different. And for a few days it is. The mornings are a little slower, the people around you a little more visible. You almost say the kind thing out loud.

Then the week fills back in. The commute, the inbox, the argument about nothing, the Tuesday that swallows every good intention you had on Sunday.

It is not that you forgot. It is that nobody showed you how to keep it inside a real day.

That is not a character flaw. It is a design problem. Most of what gets sold as personal growth asks you to add something to a life that already feels full. Another morning routine. Another app. Another weekend that promises everything and delivers a nice memory you cannot quite replicate on a Wednesday.

So the ache stays. The gap between the person you want to be and the one who actually made it through the day. The loneliness that shows up even when you are surrounded by people. The suspicion that connection should not be this hard.

You do not need another program. You need a first step small enough to actually take.

Here is the part that changes the math.

Connection is not something you have or don’t have. It is a skill, and skills can be built, practiced, and strengthened.

Kindness is a practice, not a personality. You do not have to already be a warmer person to live like one. You get better at it the way you get better at anything, by doing it, even when your attempts go badly, and by returning to it on purpose, again and again. The day you are already in is full of the exact moments where that skill gets built: the checkout line, the left-turn lane, the neighbor you have never met.

The research is real

Richard Davidson’s decades of work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison established that well-being and kindness are trainable skills, not fixed traits. BJ Fogg showed that habits stick when they are tiny and anchored to something you already do, not when you want them badly enough. Gillian Sandstrom and Elizabeth Dunn found that even a brief exchange with a near-stranger reliably lifts your sense of belonging.

And the honest caveat, which I will hold in plain sight: the research is modest. Nobody is promising you a new life by Friday. What the evidence consistently shows is that small things, repeated, change you over time. It comes from the reps, not from a revelation.

This booklet is where the reps begin.

What the booklet holds

Forty pages. No filler, no fluff, no spiritual jargon.

1

A working definition of kindness

What kindness actually is, and why it holds up. Not the soft, greeting-card version, but kindness as any word, gesture, or act that creates goodwill and benefits both people at once. Including the science of why giving it changes the giver as much as the receiver.

2

The Three Rings of Practice

Where kindness is actually built, from the inside out: toward yourself, toward the wider world of strangers and the people who frustrate you, and toward your personal circle of family, friends, and neighbors.

3

The Four Building Blocks

The simple daily rhythm any lasting practice runs on: Intention, Attention, Action, and Reflection. Small enough to carry into a real day, sturdy enough to build on.

4

Six Starter Exercises

From a five-minute Morning Intention to a weekly Kindness Inventory, each one paired with journaling prompts. Concrete things to try today, not a twelve-week program.

This is not a workbook, a course, or a system. It is a handshake. Forty pages that say: here is the idea, here is why it works, here is how to start, and here is what to try next if you want to go deeper.

This is for you if

  • You are tired of being told to find yourself somewhere other than where you already are.
  • You feel disconnected even when surrounded by people.
  • You want something you can actually finish and use, not add to the pile.
  • You are skeptical of spiritual language but hungry for something with depth.
  • You would rather practice being kind than perform it.
  • You want a first step, not a twelve-week commitment.

This is not for you if

  • You are looking for a dramatic makeover by the weekend.
  • You want someone to tell you exactly who to become.
  • You need a guru with definitive answers.

There is no shame in any of that. It is just not what this is.

Where this sits

The booklet is the first rung of the ladder.

If you have read The Manifesto and thought, “I want to actually do this, not just think about it,” this is the next step. Forty pages that take the principles and make them practical.

If the booklet resonates and you want structured guidance, the one-hour video course goes deeper: six short segments, an audio version, and the printable Practice Companion, all designed to fit inside the days you are already living. That is the second rung, available whenever you are ready.

No pressure. No countdown timer. Just a path that respects your pace.

Who wrote this

A line drawing of Eric

Hi, I’m Eric.

I run a University where I am also enrolled as a student. I miss the mindful breath more often than I would like to admit, and part of this practice is learning to say so without judgment and then simply trying again.

I am not going to pretend enlightenment or claim I have arrived somewhere you have not. This booklet exists because I was frustrated with most of what was being offered and just wanted something honest, grounded, and small enough to actually use.

I have spent my career being invited into just about every kind of social setting there is, from inner city block parties to exclusive country clubs, and the one thing that consistently warms any room is the same across the board: simple kindness. This booklet is translating that experience into something you can hold in your hands and put to work today.

I built this because the life I kept trying to get to turned out to be the one I was already living. I only needed to look at my day a little differently to see that the opportunities for connection and meaning were already there.

From one neighbor to another, even though we have never met: you have got this if you are willing to give it an honest go.

A plain promise

Read the booklet. Try the practice for a week. If it genuinely does nothing for you, write me and I will refund you, no hoops to jump through and no hard feelings. I would rather you spend the $12 on something that actually helps than keep a dollar of it if this was not the thing that made a difference. But I will ask you this: please do not buy the booklet if you do not intend to give it an honest go. Because in my experience, if you are genuinely willing to try, it is virtually impossible not to feel something shift. Capiche?

The day you are in is not in the way. It is the way.

Give it forty pages and one breath, and start meeting your day a little more purposefully than you did yesterday.
